THE STRAIN
If you have been following our ganja journey over the past decade, then you know how much we love our Vanilla Kush. Breeding with this strain has been on our mind for many years and now we have finally created a new flavor we know you will love.
Using our first creation It’s Mendo Dope we wanted to pick out our own unique male to pollinate with the Vanilla Kush. Our goal was to create Gringo Loco, crazy white boy weed! We wanted to put a new spin on the classic Kush with our exotic fruity dope.
Using a Locomotion dominant structure male, we set out to make a vigorous growing offspring that kept the original potent Kush characteristics of the Vanilla but added a new layer of terps and strength from the Mendo Dope.
When these two exotic strains collided, they produced an explosive flower with rock hard dense buds, extreme resin production and insane terpenes.
STRAIN OVERVIEW
When we set out to create Gringo Loco we knew we had something special in the works. The combination of these two amazing cultivars gave birth to an amazing new flavor that will rock your world. The Vanilla Kush is one of our all-time favorites that we have had in our collection since 2011.
Created by Barneys Farm using a Kashmir and Afghani Kush, this hard-hitting, potent, indica-dominant strain is one of our highest testing flowers for THC and it is very mold resistant. The smell of this flower is very unique and we have never come across anything quite like it. It’s Mendo Dope was our very first breeding project that we created with Subcool the Weed Nerd. This strain came to life when we found an extremely special Locomotion pheno that exhibited pink and purple hairs with a nose-piercing orange, burnt rubber and tangerine terpene profile.
Subcool insisted we use this special cut and pollinate with his Querkle for our first strain. The result was phenomenal. The Mendo Dope performed extremely well in both indoor and outdoor conditions. With its vigorous growth style and very loud terpene production we knew it was a great candidate to breed with the Vanilla Kush. Our mission was to blend these flavors together seamlessly and capture the best of both worlds to deliver potency, resin production, terps and strength. We began testing the Gringo Loco indoors and we couldn’t wait to see the results. We choose two different phenos to experiment with and right away we could see a resemblance from both parents.
Sharp jagged leaves like the Vanilla Kush but they had a more spread-out vigorous pattern of growth that was inherited from the Mendo Dope. Growing the Vanilla Kush for the past 10+ years we knew that it is not the biggest growing plant but it packed on some of the best resin for hash making.
This style of resin production has a very dry, sand like texture that is perfect for trichome collecting. On the other side of the spectrum, the Mendo Dope is the opposite type of resin. This high terpene flower develops a slick, oily wet type of resin that is not ideal for washing but it has a full body flavor. One of our goals with combining these strains together was to create a new flavor that would not only be able to grow very large but also have the ability to produce washable resin.
As these plants began flowering, they all had similarities in growth style but as the resin proceeded to stack, we started to gravitate to one in particular. This pheno was swelling fast and as we gently rubbed our fingers on the resin covered fan leaves, we could instantly tell it was a Vanilla Kush style trichome. The terpenes were beginning to jump right into our nose now with hints of tangy orange and vanilla extract.
About 6 weeks into flower, we could see the buds begin to change and form into solid rock-hard colas with a shade of purple color covering the tops. During the final days of flower, we really got to see how well these cultivars paired. The Vanilla Kush is a very bright green flower with orange hairs and snowy white crystals. The Mendo Dope shows lots of tropical colors throughout the selection of phenos and normally finishes with a beautiful purple shade. To see these two strains come together in a tornado of colors, resin and terpenes had us very excited.
We couldn’t wait for the smoke test on this new creation. Out of the two phenos we selected on our flower run one of them finished with a perfect dark purple coating while the other stayed pure green. All of them were excellent resin producers and they all had a similar aroma.
I could describe the smell being similar to a freshly baked pound cake topped with oranges and whipped cream. In addition to the psychedelic tie-dye colors of these flowers, the large diamond clusters of THC were piled on top of each other like trichome mountain ranges. The buds had a magnificent glow and almost looked too good to smoke.
We harvested between 56 – 60 days and taking these plants down was very easy with its perfect uniform bud formation. As we trimmed up the first dry buds the weight was very impressive and the smell was intoxicating. Sharp calyxes stood from the tips of each bud and resin oozed from every crater. Smoking the Gringo Loco had a trifecta of effects. It brought us up and ready to move but then knocked us right back down just as fast. It had an inspiring high that ignited the brain waves and cleared the mind.
The taste was like eating a gourmet dessert and left our mouths watering with a smooth coating of rich flavor. This strain is great for creativity and pain relief with its potent lineage. We would recommend this strain for the experienced smoker who can handle a nice kick to the chest.
