Hey Professor,
I’m a new grower and have a few plants on a back porch growing in a soilless potting mix. I’ve been feeding them with Alaskan Fish Emulsion that has a 5-1-1 NPK rating. Is this okay for me to use through flowering? I’m not trying to grow pineapples on redwood trees, I’m just having fun.

Hey L,
Having fun while growing is one of the highest joys of growing marijuana! You can use the fish emulsion throughout the entire lifecycle of your plants, but most growers wouldn’t recommend it. The plants will produce smaller, leafier buds. You should use a fertilizer that offers more phosphorus that will boost bud production. I would suggest switching to a bat guano or bone meal tea to feed your plants. It’s a simple thing to do and you will be much happier with the results. Also, be sure to flush your plants the last couple of weeks before harvest by cutting out all fertilizer and only using plain water. The resulting buds will taste a lot better.
Keep having fun!
