I’m the type of person who wants to read the book before I see the film or watch the TV adaptation, but this sometimes means that I fall behind on what everyone else is interested in at any given time.
American Gods was released online last year and the trailers for the series did more than enough to pique my interest, however I resisted the urge to watch it immediately and instead chose to keep my eyes peeled for the book that inspired it. Following the exploits of a man named Shadow, this novel weaves a merry dance through Indiana and beyond as he discovers that all is not as it seems and the fate of our very souls hang in a delicate balance.
Gaiman manages to create an utterly believable fantasy version of our world and delivers a gripping sense of pace from start to finish. A completely compelling read. (4)
