Hello Professor,
My friend has a worm farm they use in their garden. I understand that worm castings are great for growing cannabis. He gave me a couple five-gallon buckets of the stuff. Can I just sow some seeds in the buckets or should I mix it up with stuff and if so what stuff should I use?
Thanks,
Don
Hello Don,
Worm castings are a fantastic source of microorganisms, nutrient levels variety a bit depending on what they ate, and can increase aeration in soils. I would not recommend using 100% worm castings to grow cannabis; instead it should be used as valuable amendment in a soil mix. A simple one consists of three parts peat moss or coco coir, one part perlite, one part vermiculite, and one or two parts worm castings. You can add organic nutrient sources to this soil mix or simply water with teas or dissolved fertilizers. I’m a bit jealous you have access to such a great source of fresh worm castings! Use them well!
I hope this answers your question.
