If you want to smell or check out a specific strain, let the budtender know
Stepping into a cannabis store is one of the most overwhelming feelings. To most people, marijuana is still highly illegal. This means you can’t even possess the herb, nevertheless buy it. Now imagine the feeling of walking into a store that is dedicated to this “illegal herb” and the store has everything plus more than you can imagine. As soon as you walk in, you get hit in the face by one of the best smells known to man.
Some people can’t believe how far we’ve come while others only believe this is just the tip of the iceberg for the holy plant. As more states and countries decide to legalize, this industry will advance forward much quicker.
What is a Cannabis Store
A cannabis store or also known as a dispensary, is a store that is dedicated to just weed and its related product. This can be anything containing THC like flowers, oils, wax, edibles to any other cannabinoids like CBD tincture oils or even CBD and CBN. You can even purchase pre-rolled joints, water pipes, lighters, grinders and much more.
Depending on where you live, the laws might be very stringent. Some require the buyer to walk out with a special child proof bag while others are fine if you just put your herbs in a pop top bottle. Unlike a liquor store, cannabis stores are meant to only supply marijuana related stuff. A liquor store is also a convenient store in most places like a 7-11 is. Also, anyone can walk into a liquor store because there’s a product there for everyone. Some places require you to be 21 and others require you to be 18 or 19. In the United States, it is split into two categories. Recreational dispensaries and medical. If you are using it for medical, you have to be at the age of 18 while using it recreationally will jump to 21, very similar to alcohol.
Process of a Dispensary
When you walk into a dispensary, you are usually greeted by someone at the front desk. They are either an employee or the security guard. They will have the pleasure of checking you in. If there is a long line, you will have to wait a bit. There may not be enough budtenders to help and too many people in the main room can be overwhelming.
When it’s your turn, they will let you know when you can walk in. This room will be full of products. Just about anything cannabis related will be in there. You will be matched with a budtender who will help you purchase what you want. Be mindful to not touch anything. If you want to smell or check out a specific strain, let the budtender know. When you’re done, let them know and they will ring you up. If it’s your first time at that dispensary, they will give you a little slip which marks your first time at that dispensary. They give free gifts for first timers to encourage you to come back.
Depending on the location, some dispensaries let you smoke inside. Some have lounges that you can sit back chill and either smoke joints, take hits from a vape pen or simply take dabs.
Do’s
There are few things you can do and should do at a dispensary.
Bring Your ID
Your identification is very important to verify you and your age. If you don’t have your local government ID, then a passport will be fine.
Bring Cash
Unfortunately Cannabis is still federally illegal in most places even though they’re legal in the states. In cases like this, the state lets the business operate but there is no cannabis banking law set forward. Because of this, they have to deal with all cash. You can’t use your credit or debit card. Cash is the main currency and cryptocurrency is sometimes used too.
Ask Questions
Many people who are new to marijuana don’t know what they want when they first go in. Some people will want to try edibles while others can only handle very low THC weed. Budtenders will answer you question and can help you get everything you need to make your first time a good one.
Dont’s
Here are some of the stuff you shouldn’t do in a dispensary.
Be on your Phone
When you’re at a cannabis store, focus on going in and coming back out. Don’t go inside and stay on your phone. People can be waiting on you. It is also very disrespectful to talk on the phone really loud while there are a bunch of other people around you.
Hang Out
Once you buy your product, you don’t want to stick around unless there is a lounge. Generally, cannabis store owners will want you off their property after you purchase it because of government laws. The main reason is they don’t want you smoking in public.
Negotiate on Price
Prices on cannabis are usually set in stone. Just like you wouldn’t go to a liquor store and ask them if you can buy a bottle of vodka for cheaper than the price listed, you shouldn’t do it with weed. The store requires to make money in order to stay around.

That’s a good idea to make sure that you ask questions. I feel like it would be nice to know what everything will do and how to use it when you are just starting. I’ll have to keep that in mind if I need to get some medical cannabis.
