Hey Professor,
I’ve been told that some strains will present a bunch of different growth patterns and characteristics. Is this true and what causes it?
Sin Dee,
Las Vegas.
Hello Sin Dee,
The short answer is genetics. Even stabilized strains will have recessive genes floating around making the odd plant stick out from the rest. It’s all part of the wonderful world of evolution. We humans love to find a unique plant or animal and then play around with its offspring to develop something new.
That’s why there are so many different strains of pot (or breeds of dog, for that matter). I can think of several new marijuana strains that are out right now where the breeders proudly boast of the fact that you might find two or three different phenotypes in the same packet of seeds. These differences could be in the types of high, growth patterns, aromas, or even flavors.
A fun trick is to try using an eleven on / thirteen off light cycle to possibly trigger whatever strain you’re growing into presenting some or all of their hidden phenotypes.
Roll the Dice and Give it a Try, Sin Dee!
