In our modern world, one of the greatest issues facing mankind is the ever-increasing prevalence of mental health issues and the impact it has on our collective well-being.
It comes as no surprise that with our packed schedules and our crammed lives, that treating conditions such as anxiety and depression with prescription medication is a $15 billion a year worldwide industry. For some, prescription medications are a no-go either because of allergies or because they want to opt for something more natural.
The Cannabis plant has been used for many of years as a medicinal agent in the relief of pain and seizures. It contains approximately 540 natural compounds including more than 100 that have been identified as phytocannabinoids due to their shared chemical structure. The legalization of cannabis for medicinal purposes and for recreational use in some regions will allow for much needed research on the pharmacokinetics and pharmocology of medical cannabis.

Researchers from the Addiction and Mental Health Group at the University of Bath, working with staff from King’s College London, UCL and the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne, say more needs to be done to make people aware of the levels of THC – the main psychoactive component – in the cannabis they are consuming.
