It could be the first EU country to fully legalise cannabis
The announcement was made during a press conference held by the three coalition parties, which make up Luxembourg’s Parliament, that Luxembourg is to become the first country in Europe to fully legalise cannabis for recreational use.
Cannabis will be available for commercial distribution, however only residents of the country will be permitted to purchase the drug.
The coalition released a policy document that provides details of plans to introduce legislation to legalize recreational cannabis.
Addiction prevention will also be a part of the government’s new policy.
The debate came after a petition was submitted which called for legalisation to set up Amsterdam-style coffee shop, petitioners have used Canada’s recent change to show how legalization can benefit the economy.
