Whatever your top 10 list of emcees is, if you don’t rank Black Thought somewhere then your list is probably inaccurate. This is the first full project since Black Thought started working with 9th Wonder as his producer and it paves the way for some stellar future releases if they continue to work together – in all honesty I would be very surprised if this was the last collaboration between these two. Widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, Black Thought brings five tracks of absolute gold to this EP and shows the rest of the world exactly how you stay real in an increasingly diluted industry. Stand out tracks are ‘9th Vs. Thought’, a heavy-weight soul banger with more lyrics in its sub-3-minute length than some artists manage to achieve in whole career, and ‘Dostoyevsky’, a piano-plinking, Wu-Tang-esque showcase of lyricism and wordplay featuring a solid collaboration with Rapsody. (4.5.)
