Knocks out the kinks!
I have always loved receiving new test packs from Subcool, as it always proves to be an exciting venture into the unknown. With a combination of Sweet Irish Kush x Jack the Ripper, how could you not expect some sweet tones and a knockout punch.
When the 5 seed test pack arrived, I immediately planted them into Jiffy Pellets and patiently waited for the magic to start. A few days later we had 100 % germination. The sprouts took off really fast, like a race horse coming out of the shoot. They took off so fast that I had to re-pot them from a 3″ pot to a 1 gal pot after only 2 weeks and started to top them to slow the growth rate down just a tad.
After week 6 of the vegetation stage, I again re-potted them to 3 gal pots filled with Subcool’s super soil mix and started the training process. By the time they were 2 1/2 months old they were topped multiple times and formed into a nice bush ready for fruiting.
Placed in the bud room under a 1000 watt HPS lamp, my day and night temperatures were kept within 7 degrees to help reduce the stretch. During the first 2 weeks, the plants went from 24″ to 36″ tall and the first signs of flowers were showing. I was only blessed with 2 ladies and the boys were culled.
From here the flower formation was steady and by week 3 and 4 the first signs of aromas were emanating, with sweet scents of fruits and candies that reminded me of opening a fresh box of Fruit Loops. The flowers that were forming weren’t overly large but forming little clusters all over the place and the resin was already looking thick and sticky and it was shining superbly under the 1000 watt light.
I had 2 variations expressing themselves. 1 having pointier shaped flowers, much like a sativa, while the other displayed a bit more on the Indica side, being fatter and more rounded, but both were oozing with resin.
By week 8 the resin was 60% cloudy and 40% clear, so I let them go to 9 weeks. You can expect a harvest window of 8 to 10 weeks depending upon your preference.
Once harvested and cured I began my sampling. The sativa version smelt and tasted very lemony with a bit of a racy high and proved to be a little too unbalanced for my preference.
The 2nd sampling expressed both sides of the gene pool and proved to be well balanced and rich in flavors of lemons and rotting fruit, yet tasted like Pineapple on the exhale. The high was clear, more focused and refined and proved to a great pain reliever. It knocked out my arthritic pain and in a matter of minutes I was relieved and discomfort free.
A clear winner for keeping the head straight with knockout pain relief when it really matters.
