Research suggests CBD may reduce chronic inflammation and pain, and users have also reported a reduction in anxiety, mood symptoms and insomnia.
Studies have also suggested benefits in the treatment of Alzheimer’s, arthritis, cancer and epilepsy, with research ongoing.
Under California’s legalization legislation, however, cannabis businesses are required to pay taxes on all products, including donations and samples. There’s no way to dodge it: the law has implemented a track-and-trace system designed to follow all flower and cannabis products through the supply chain from cultivation to sale.
“Far from being a gateway drug, marijuana is potentially an exit drug for people using opioids,” said Melissa Moore, deputy state director of the Drug Policy Alliance, which supports the bill.
The Government’s bill instead creates a legal defence for possession and use of cannabis if someone is in the last year of their life, without out and out legalising it. It would remain an offence to provide marijuana to a terminally ill person.
