White Berry – the name of this cannabis strain recalls some good memories! This Paradise Seeds’ variety has been around for a few years, and has always caught the eye since Mr. Power Planter captured its highly attractive and fat yielding plants on camera. It’s not just the looks of this cannabis plant; the strong high and sweet berry smell and taste is very distinctive, as is the complexity of effect that has earned it a reputation amongst aficionados.
Paradise Seeds describes White Berry (75% indica / 25% sativa) as a “deadly beauty” – comparing it to a bush full of forbidden fruits. Just a single nip, as with that poisonous apple in biblical paradise, causes a state of toxication or, in White Berry’s case, a state of intoxication! And it takes this strain only seven weeks (50 days) to prepare its mighty “poison”, so White Berry is a very fast finisher, making it an attractive choice for impatient gardeners too.
With this variety bud growth is concentrated around the main stem, leading to enormous head buds. Thanks to the plant’s slender shape, many growers like to cultivate this Paradise Seeds’ strain in Sea Of Green (SOG) and Screen Of Green (SCROG) set-ups. Indoor yields of up to 425g/m2 are to be expected.
In spite of the mostly indica nature of White Berry, its high starts with a crystal clear sativa head rush that gradually turns into an indica-style body stone. First it will stimulate and inspire you, and then “put you to sleep like a baby on a lullaby”, Paradise promises. This plant is also popular amongst medical marijuana patients, due to its analgetic and mentally lucid effect.
This batch was grown in an indoor set up. The lighting system comprised of LEDs (M30 modules from SANlight), which reflects the popularity of the growing technique which has been enthusing cannabis gardeners with indoor grows more and more over the past couple of years. The end result was impressive: all the plants were laden with big fat tops, and there was one especially remarkable White Berry plant standing out of the crowd, exemplifying very well what Paradise had written about this strain in their description: From the plant’s center, a monstrous head bud was arising, almost 50cm long and 16cm wide!
In fact, this freak of nature was such an awesome specimen that it more resembled a baseball bat than a bud! Such an impressive marijuana head bud hadn’t been seen for a long time by the grower While this gigantic bud looked dense and hard as a rock, its smell was soft and fruity sweet. In fact, it was some kind of berry odor, fuelled by those myriad resin glands that richly covered White Berry’s flower clusters. It is worth noting too that the flower structure was also very convenient, with the White Berry plants displaying an extremely high calyx-to-leaf-ratio that ensured harvest work was completed in no time.
Paradise Seeds states that White Berry plants ripen in 50 days time, which is what you want to be hearing if you are looking for a fast growing cannabis seed. These three plants indeed fulfilled that promise, to the effect that you could almost set your watch by them! After the drying process all the buds remained dense and rock-hard, with the slightly conical shape of that monstrous “baseball bat” head bud having become even more evident now. By the way, this juicy bud weighed 47 grams on its own, while over the three White Berry specimens, the average yield per plant was 62 grams.
And now it was time to sample this forbidden fruit – in a Volcano vaporizer to experience the full cannabis taste and effect. The fruity sweet berry flavor was simply delicious, and there was also sense of a slight pine undertone which added to the complexity of the taste. In no time, a mighty sativa kick set in, the punch of this “green baseball bat” sending the sampler sky-high! The effect delivered an accelerated heartbeat that pounded the ears like a tribal drum, making the head prickle and tingle and the eyes sharpen with vision becoming crystal clear. After a while, the happy sativa kick smoothed off, giving way to a warm relaxing indica-style effect that calmed the body and mind.
Conclusion: Within only 50 days of flowering, the Paradise Seeds White Berry plants conjured fat “sporty” connoisseur’s buds in the grow room with the end result being a strong, complex and versatile high.
