Marijuana has, for a long time, been a hot topic around the world. The strains are broadly divided into Sativa, indica, and hybrid, so it is important to know the difference between sativa and indica strains.
While some people are still wondering about its uses, some are busy trying to figure out ways in which they can grow their cannabis Sativa strands at home. But before going into details of how to grow Marijuana, you must be wondering, what is CBD, that’s talked about so much? It is a non-psychoactive chemical compound extracted from cannabis Sativa. Others refer to it as cannabidiol.
CBD is used in edibles and oils. Consumption of Marijuana is very beneficial for health; it has a calming effect that relieves stress and anxiety. Now that you have a complete idea of what CBD is, below are easy steps that will help you to grow your very own Marijuana at home.
Step 1: Choose an appropriate growing spot
The good news is that Marijuana is a hardy plant. It can adapt in various climates though not extreme weather. The bad news is that, for excellent results, you need to pick the right spot for your plant. It can be quite hard, more so if you don’t have any idea on what to look for.
Below are some of the things you will have to consider when selecting a growing spot.
First, ensure that the area is secure. It is to prevent anyone from stealing your marijuana plant. The place should also be strategic, making it easily accessible while giving you enough room to take care of your plant. It should also be clean.
Step 2: Set up the growing area
Whether you will be growing your marijuana indoors or outdoors, you need to set up the area before proceeding to the next step. First, know which medium you will use to plant your marijuana. You can use soil or other mediums that are rich in oxygen, water, and nutrients. For such a medium, you will have to use setups such as hydroponic, deep water culture, drip irrigation, or nutrient film technology, among others.
You will also need lighting for an indoor growing area. If you want a lighting system that will last, it is recommendable that you get LED lights. They are, however, very expensive. You can also use High-Intensity discharge bulbs, better known as HID bulbs. The setup must be perfect.
Step 3: Get the planting seeds
Once the setup is ready, you will have to get quality cannabis seeds. This is a very critical stage because if you get the wrong seeds, you will end up with the wrong strain. The seeds also have to be healthy for you to end up with a healthy marijuana harvest. You also have to decide if you want auto-flowering seeds, regular seeds, feminized seeds or a combination.
Most marijuana seeds require intensive caring. However, marijuana seeds such as feminized or auto flowering seeds require less work compared to others.
Step 4: Get the required nutrients
Just like any other plants, marijuana needs nutrients for them to grow healthy. You need to make sure that you get fertilizers rich in calcium, phosphorus, nitrogen, magnesium, iron, and potassium, among others. Each type of fertilizer will be required during different growth stages.
In case you are growing your marijuana in composted super soil, you will not require as much fertilizer as that needed in ordinary soil. However, if you decided to use a soilless mixture, you will need to get nutrients that are made explicitly for hydroponics. This step is very critical, and that is why you are advised to seek help from a marijuana growing expert.
Step 5: Sprouting and planting of your marijuana
Before planting, it is essential that you first germinate your seeds. This can be done by placing them in a moist cloth. Within a few days, the seeds will sprout. You can also opt for a mini-greenhouse to use for the germination process. This will, however, cost you additional cash. Once the seeds germinate, you can go ahead and plant them in the medium you prepared.
Make sure that you use a suitable medium for your marijuana to grow healthy. If the medium is not good enough, your plant will end up facing problems such as unbalanced PH, pests, and diseases. If you are planting in a soil medium, make a hole with your finger and insert the plant.
Step 6: Vegetative and flowering
You will know your plant has reached the vegetative stage once you see the first set of leaves. During this stage, you are required to apply fertilizer. Make sure you consult an expert for you to know which type of fertilizer to use during this period. You should also ensure that your marijuana plant gets 7 hours of sunlight if at all you’ve grown it outdoors and 18 to 24hours of light if it is indoors.
The next stage will be flowering. This is the stage where you have to identify the sex of the plant. Remove any available males and leave the female to continue growing. During this period, make sure your plant gets plenty of sunlight.
Step 7: Harvest, dry and cure your weed
This is yet another stage that you need to pay too much attention to when growing marijuana. Only harvest your weed when at least 60% of the white hair (pistils) has darkened. For incredible feel, you should wait until at least 80% of the pistils is dark.
After harvesting, make sure you turn your buds upside down and dry them slowly in a dark and cold room. This way, you will end up with incredible results. Quality weed tends to be very effective when it comes to making you completely relaxed.
So far, these are the seven easy steps that you need to follow for you to grow your marijuana at home. Keep in mind that marijuana requires you to monitor it frequently for them to turn out better.
