Section 44 could override all current laws and push the medical marijuana into force
Thailand’s narcotics control board has suggested that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of justice look into the legalization of medical marijuana and suggested that the use of Section 44 would be acceptable.
Section 44 gives the head of government the ability to override existing legislation and issue new laws, this would allow the new law for medical marijuana in Thailand.
Marijuana is a category 5 drug and the use is forbidden, in 2016 a regulation was put into place for the import, export, possession of drugs in this category and party wishing to plant, sell, import, export marijuana for medical or research purposes need to issue details to the Ministry for approval.
Thailand already has research being conducted into the uses of medical marijuana and it looks like the public opinion is changing.
