The ruling is a victory for every person who is a member of our culture
On Tuesday 18th September South Africa’s Constitutional Court passed the private use and cultivation of Cannabis.
Judges declared unconstitutional three sections of the Constitution that prohibited consumption, possession and cultivation. Parliiment should hopefully change the law within 2 years.
South Africa’s Dagga Party’s leader Jeremy Acton stated “The ruling is a victory for every person who is a member of our culture. However, people should be able to gather in places which are still private events where collective experience of cannabis use may continue, just as people gather to have a beer,”
Selling and smoking cannabis in public places is still illegal in South Africa however Jeremy Acton will continue to lobby for change.
