Updating a film that was so successful in its hey-day is never an easy task to undertake, so the decision to revise the ideology behind Jumanji and put it into a videogame comes across as a necessary turn (would kids these days even play traditional board games? Or would they just get bored?). The main premise is still familiar territory, a group of people get sucked into a mysterious game and have to win to escape, but the key focus here is on the chemistry between the characters.
While the original garnered attention because of the brilliant part played by Robin Williams, this spiritual successor relies far more on the big names working together to deliver a hilarious and exciting movie scene after scene. While you may not think this is likely to be film of the year, it’s a fantastic thrill ride with some genuinely clever tricks up its sleeve and more than enough to bring you back for more. (4)
