“Security officers will monitor the enforcement of rules for carrying prescription drugs to stadium grounds at checkpoints,” the organizing committee said Tuesday
Maybe Russia is better off fortifying its national security shield from perils such as a deadly terrorist attack than wasting its time tackling drug violations. The Moscow Times reported that Russia will allow football fans to bring their illicit drugs to the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
But the idea is not as easy as it sounds.
Football fans must come with supporting medical documents written in the Russian language. According to the Russian regulations, the drugs: Marijuana, heroin, and cocaine, will be allowed as long as they go through the bureaucratic processes necessary to secure papers.
The Moscow Times reported on Wednesday that Russia’s 2018 World Cup Organizing Committee told the pro-Kremlin Izvestia newspaper that law enforcement officers on duty at World Cup stadiums will be tasked with verifying the authenticity of drug prescriptions.
“Security officers will monitor the enforcement of rules for carrying prescription drugs to stadium grounds at checkpoints,” the organizing committee said Tuesday.
Citing Russia’s Federal Customs Service as saying, Izvestia said the fans carrying the drugs will have to fill out a customs declaration as well.
It is the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union that can grant travelers to bring these illicit substances.
But it is still unclear how can fans bring medical documents proving their need to take cocaine and heroin as these two drugs have no medicinal value.
Russia will host World Cup for 2018 from June 14 to July 15 in 11 cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi.
