Texas is one step closer to joining the 34 states where medicinal marijuana is legal after state legislators passed a law written by North Texas Republican representative and registered nurse Stephanie Klick to expand the conditions that can be treated with medicinal cannabis. Although the law narrowly defines which conditions can be treated with medicinal marijuana, it is a significant expansion.
Canberra has become the first city in Australia to legalise cannabis for personal use. As of Friday, Canberra residents over 18 will be allowed to possess 50g of cannabis and grow two plants per person. A household can only have four plants total and hydroponic growing will remain illegal, The ABC reported. Authorities have warned that the new Australian Captial Territory laws, however, conflict with federal legislation.
“We developed this technology that allows for non-invasive, non-destructive—and what’s very important for law enforcement officers—on-site identification of cannabis,” said Dmitry Kurouski, assistant professor in the department of biochemistry and biophysics at Texas A&M University.
“Congress should remove cannabis from the list of Schedule 1,”
According to local ABC affiliate WFAA, Jeffcoat was dismissed on Thursday because of an email he sent to high school baseball player Gavin Bell from Aurora, Colorado, who had reached out to Jeffcoat in search of opportunities to play college ball.
The state has approved three dispensaries to provide cannabis oil to seizure patients. But with only 17 doctors able to prescribe it, the oils still can be tough to secure.
