Spiderman: Homecoming - 12
While many superhero movies focus their attention on pure spectacle and increasingly ludicrous locales, this latest instalment in the Marvel Universe aims to rein the lavish spectacle back in favour of developing a more relatable and human hero
Homecoming is more the story of a young man trying to figure out the problems of his social life than the traditional good-vs-evil battle you might be expecting (not to say that there aren’t a few battles between the ‘good guys’ and the ‘bad guys’ – it’s just less important), however this actually plays in the film’s favour as it helps to establish grounding for future (inevitable) sequels. Tom Holland plays the lead role convincingly and manages to maintain a solid balance of annoying and endearing, while Jacob Batalon is brilliant as his nerdy best-friend, all of which adds to the overall atmosphere of what is an enjoyable movie in its own right.
